About us

Sunflower is not an ordinary childcare center.  Established and incorporated in 1978 by parents seeking high quality care for their children, Sunflower’s unique features include:

  • Full time (5 days/week) or part time (less than 5 days/week) spaces and rates
  • Small Groups
  • Cross-age friendships
  • Parent participation
  • Parent provided lunch
  • Two snacks per day
  • Volunteers from Bucknell University child development courses, psychology courses, literature courses, and music courses
Purpose:  To provide developmentally appropriate, individualized care for children in a loving, guiding environment in accordance with parents’ wishes. 

Values:  Activities at Sunflower emphasize the following:

Staff:  The staff at Sunflower is chosen with utmost care.  They average over 6 years at Sunflower, are well prepared, experienced and participate in continuing education programs. 


Ratios:  Staff/child ratios are exemplary:

·         Infants 1:3, 1:4

·         Toddlers 1:5

·         3-year olds 1:7

·         4 & 5 year olds 1:8


License:  Sunflower is approved and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and meets or exceeds all state requirements for a day care.


Polices:  Sunflower recognizes the value of including caregivers and children who vary broadly as to race, color, religious creed, ancestry, national origin, age, sex and abilities.  Sunflower does not discriminate on those bases in enrollment, hiring or referral.

General Information: 

Ages:  Infants (6-weeks) to pre-kindergarten

We DO NOT offer before-school or after-school care to children already enrolled in school.

Hours: 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (Mondays-Fridays) all year long, except major holidays.

Capacity:  69 (maximum)
